Panerai – Luminor – Blue Dial – PAM01020 – 2020

The PAM01020 is Panerai’s most prestigious entry in the 2019 Luminor Yachts Challenge trilogy — a flyback chronograph crafted in Goldtech™, the brand’s proprietary gold alloy rich in copper, with platinum added to stabilise the hue and protect against oxidation. The result is a distinctive warm red-gold tone that sets this piece apart from conventional yellow or rose gold, and positions it as the statement piece of the three-variant collection.

The 44mm Goldtech™ case carries a brushed finish across the main surfaces, with a polished bezel that creates considered contrast. The see-through sapphire caseback — unique to the PAM01020 within this series — exposes the beautifully decorated P.9100 calibre beneath, with Geneva stripes and chamfered bridges visible through the metalized crystal.

The blue sun-brushed dial is exceptional. Gold accents on the hands and printed registers complement the case material with precision, creating an internal coherence that elevates the overall composition. The sandwich dial construction delivers the depth and legibility Panerai is known for, with luminous Arabic numerals and hour markers. Chronograph functions are distributed across a central seconds hand, central minute hand, 12-hour counter at three o’clock, and small seconds at nine o’clock.
Power comes from the in-house P.9100 calibre — a automatic flyback movement developed and manufactured at Panerai’s Neuchâtel facility. The vertical clutch and column wheel configuration allows the chronograph hands to return instantly to zero and restart without stopping, a hallmark of a serious flyback mechanism. Two barrels in series deliver a 72-hour power reserve. The movement operates at 28,800 vph and features hacking seconds and an instant hour-change function. Water resistance is rated to 50 metres.

The PAM01020 is fitted on a beige rubber strap moulded with Officine Panerai, secured with a Goldtech™ buckle. It is the collector’s choice within this series — precious in material, refined in execution, and singular in character.
